Personal injury firm Clear Law have been announced as official sponsors of 2014’s Deaf Awareness Week, running from 19th-25th May.

This year the theme of the campaign, run by UK Council on Deafness (UKCoD), is ‘Equality in Communication for all’. Information on deafness and hearing loss will be available throughout the week, with events taking place across the country.

The UKCoD is an umbrella body for UK voluntary organisations who work with deaf people and their loved ones. Established in 1993, the council’s vision is to develop a society in which deaf people are able to fully participate. It has represented the deaf sector on numerous policy issues and continues to be an interface with government.

Gavin Moat, Director of Clear Law, said of the firm’s sponsorship: “Deaf Awareness Week is a national campaign which we are delighted to support. We want to inform people of the legal issues surrounding deafness, in particular noise-induced hearing loss due to a lack of protection in the workplace.

“Every day, we work with people who have suffered as a result of little or no protection from their employer. Our clients have become deaf or developed associated conditions such as tinnitus and this wouldn’t have been the case had they been offered all necessary protection from the start.

“We think Deaf Awareness Week is a fantastic campaign and are delighted to have been appointed as an official sponsor. We hope that, along with the other sponsors, we can generate lots of awareness about deafness and its causes and support the UKCoD in its aims for the campaign.”
